Leading the charge to net zero

Early-adopters of renewable technology, Loddon Mallee intends to remain a leader in environmental sustainability. The region has significant competitive advantages – natural resources, space, and a culture of innovation inspiring renewables development and implementation.

Victoria’s sun belt

More sunlit hours, more land availability. Home to most of Victoria’s large-scale solar operations. By 2027, the KerangLink in Gannawarra Shire will provide the infrastructure to feed solar-generated energy directly to the national grid – a game changer for the renewables sector.

Australia’s hydrogen hub

Green hydrogen is Australia’s next biggest export. The Mallee Regional Innovation Centre, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University, is putting the region on the global map for hydrogen expertise. Ideally located, established solar and biomass industries supply the raw materials for green hydrogen production.

Bio-energy tech

With a large agricultural sector, Loddon Mallee has significant untapped bioenergy resources. A number of biomass power plants are already in operation converting food and animal waste into electricity, thermal energy and gas, and consequently reducing or eliminating the need for primary producers to withdraw from the grid.
