Employment and Innovation Corridor
A comparative advantage for the region, Loddon Mallee is home to Victoria’s key Employment and Innovation Corridor, which runs from Gisborne, through Bendigo, to Echuca. It boasts strong population growth, connectivity, start-up support from local councils and business networks like Be.Bendigo, and a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Firstly, more affordable
More affordable overheads, better work-life balance. The Employment and Innovation Corridor, in particular, invites a growing number of service-based businesses. The corridor’s connected network of towns and cities, with proximity and links to Melbourne, has become a location-of-choice and is continuing to attract infrastructure investment towards further growth.
Galkangu – Bendigo GovHub
A prime example of infrastructure investment in the sector – Galkangu is a $90M project funded by the Victorian Government centralising the delivery of key government services in Bendigo. The hub will accommodate up to 1,000 council and government workers, and build a stronger, more collaborative public sector.
A financial hub
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s head office in Bendigo is the only Australian bank headquarters in Australia’s top 200 companies located outside a capital city. A testament to Bendigo as a capable alternative to metro Melbourne, the region’s financial sector is the most highly-developed in regional Victoria.
Home of Bendigo Bank
Their history began in 1858 on the Bendigo goldfields when they responded to the sudden and rapid wave of migration, establishing the Bendigo Mutual Permanent Land and Building Society to improve conditions for thousands of migrants seeking their fortune.
Soon after in 1877, South Australia’s Hindmarsh Building Society was established, founded on the principles that home ownership was the cornerstone of a successful community and that owning a home should be possible for everyone.
These businesses and more than 80 other organisations have come together to form the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, an Australian owned, top 100 ASX listed company, with more than 110,000 shareholders.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has assets under management of more than $71.4 billion and market capitalisation of around $3.3 billion.
We are one of Australia’s biggest banks, with more than 7,000 employees helping over 1.9 million customers achieve their financial goals.
The Bendigo Law Courts
The delivery of a state-of-the-art court for Bendigo that puts people and community first is well underway. This landmark civic building will set a new standard for the delivery of justice to the Bendigo community and the wider Loddon Mallee region.
The design of the future court is anchored in Bendigo’s unique heritage and culture, including the culture of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Bendigo’s Traditional Owners.
Expanded court and tribunal services will be provided locally. Specialist programs will provide additional support, where appropriate, for people to address the issues that contribute to offending, and ultimately strengthen community safety.
Scheduled for completion in late 2022, operations in the new building will commence in 2023.
