Leading the charge to net zero

Early-adopters of renewable technology, Loddon Mallee intends to remain a leader in environmental sustainability. The region has significant competitive advantages – natural resources, space, and a culture of innovation inspiring renewables development and implementation.

Victoria’s sun belt

More sunlit hours, more land availability. Home to most of Victoria’s large-scale solar operations. The North West Renewable Energy Zone is a proposed area between Kerang and Swan Hill identified in Victoria’s 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan as a suitable location for future wind, solar and battery storage projects. The draft zone includes parts of the Swan Hill, Gannawarra, Loddon and Buloke local government areas and is intended to support more coordinated renewable energy development, with access to existing and proposed transmission infrastructure, including VNI West.

VNI West

VNI West is a proposed 500 kV double-circuit electricity transmission interconnector between New South Wales and Victoria. Jointly developed by Transgrid and Transmission Company Victoria, the project is designed to strengthen the National Electricity Market by improving the capacity to share electricity between the two states, enhancing reliability and energy security, and increasing access to renewable energy. The project has the potential to support the transition to a cleaner energy future, contribute to decarbonisation, and deliver regional economic benefits through jobs, training and local supply opportunities.

Bio-energy tech

With a large agricultural sector, Loddon Mallee has significant untapped bioenergy resources. A number of biomass power plants are already in operation converting food and animal waste into electricity, thermal energy and gas, and consequently reducing or eliminating the need for primary producers to withdraw from the grid.
